Anne
Peterson Hutto was elected to represent James Island and Folly
Beach in the South Carolina House of Representatives in 2008.
She has lived on James Island for nearly 15 years. Raised by
public school educators, she graduated from the University of
Notre Dame in 1989 with a degree in Government and International
Studies and History. After graduating from college, Anne attended
Brooklyn Law School, and received her law degree in 1992.
In 1996, Anne met her now husband David Hutto, the chef at the FLETC (Federal
Law Enforcement Training Center), who was born and raised in
Aiken, South Carolina. After many years of working for a local
law firm, Anne opened her own law practice in January 2006 the
office of which is now located on James Island.
Anne
and David have two children, Matthew, 10 and Adrianne, 8. Anne
has been active with their schools and is the assistant den leader
of Matthew’s
Cub Scout Webelo Den.
Anne
is a member of the Roman Catholic Cathedral of St. John the Baptist. She is on
the Community Advisory Boards of Save the Light, Inc. and of the Junior League
of Charleston. From 2006-2008, she served on the Board of PACT (Parents and Children
Together). She is a member of the South Carolina Bar and holds a sportsmens hunting
and fishing license. In her spare time, Anne plays the flute, piano and a little
string bass. She is an avid history buff and especially enjoys Civil War history,
having worked briefly in a military history bookstore. She enjoys the beach,
boating, gardening, hiking, camping, biking, reading and, of course, spending
time with her children.
